Amazon's Spring Deal Days event is well underway with thousands of products reduced across the site - including some of its own tech. The 8-inch model of the Fire HD tablet will normall set you back £99.99, but it's currently reduced by 45% to £54.99.

We can do better than this though. By combining Amazon's Spring Sale with TopCashback, you can currently pick up the tablet for an effective £38.84 once the cashback rolls back into your account.

This 65% discount takes the tablet down to its lowest ever price, beating out even its Black Friday price of £49.99 last year. You can save up to an additional 20% if you trade-in one of your older devices, too.

Although Amazon's baseline model of tablet, it's still a capable device. Running Amazon's Fire OS, you've got access to a whole host of apps, including your Kindle library and access to Prime Video on the go.

The 8-inch screen is large enough to enjoy all of your content, but it's small enough to pack away into a bag without really noticing it. At 337g, it's super lightweight in the hand, making it ideal for younger children too.

With 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, it's enough to get you going with a few games and apps installed. However, there's room for expansion up to 1TB with a MicroSD card slot on the side.

Its battery life is rated to last for up to 13 hours, making it useful for the entire day if you' like to use it as a bit of a workstation. Pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the device and it's capable of becoming a super portable laptop in a pinch.

Amazon customers have rated this tablet at 4.4 stars overall, with one customer saying: "My severely visually impaired wife uses the Kindle to read because she can change the background colour and make the font of books big enough to see with the aid of a magnifying screen. She loves it and treated herself to a brand new one as her original one had seen better days."

Another person left this review: "Bought this in a sale £40, it's cheep, cheerful, lightweight, decent battery life, good for reading, browsing, web surfing, old school games, netflix and prime. Not the fastest but unbelievable value for money. Strongly recommend if you have limited cash, on a budget or just have simple digital needs."

A third added: "Even though I own an iPad Pro, I still use this in preference when I’m reading books or cooking and need the recipe easily available. It’s also small enough to fit in my coat pocket, or slot into my bag, so I take it with me when I have hospital or Doctors’ appointments, or I’m on the train."

Some customers did have some friction with the device, with one customer saying: "Bought plenty of these over the years for myself and as gifts, great quality but why no charger just a usb cable?". It's worth noting that Amazon doesn't include a charging brick in the box anymore to comply with EU regulations, so you'll need to make sure you have a USB charger brick at home already, or pick one up from Amazon at the same time.

Another common complaint is that the app store on the Fire HD tablets is quite limited as it doesn't have Google Play. "As anyone that's ever used a Fire tablet knows, Amazon's app store is very limited. There are no decent security/antivirus apps available. Not only do you get full web view on a tiny device, you get it via a web browser that you can't protect," says one frustrated customer.

As for alternatives, you could consider the Samsung A9 tablet which is currently on offer for 37% off at £106.88. It features an Android OS, so there's access to the full Google Play Store suite of apps.

There's also the HONOR Pad X8a which sports a larger 11-inch screen. That's on sale for £99 in the Amazon Spring Sale, boasting a 29% discount.

It's worth mentioning that if you're not a new TopCashback member, you'll get much less cashback. The price for existing members is £53.84, so it's worth making a new account to get the most out of the deal.
