About 2 hours in and I like it. I docked 1 star because the graphics seem a little jittery in the cut scenes. The geometry of the people don't quite fit right. But the 4 stars are because I like the story so far, and I love Mass Effect.

...I am currently enjoying the heck out of it. Its more like a 4.5 for me, but due to some issues (see below), I am going to round down to a 4. Yes, there are some glitch things and such, but overall it is a game worth trying, especially if you catch it on sale. I am about half way through campaign...the story is good, but the characters aren't as memorable as past ME games. The things that the internet has been fussing over the most (facial expressions, weird character and NPC movements, etc.) didn't really take away from my experience. I only wish EA had put more polish on it...oh what could have been. A few things to note. The single player campaign is the core of the game, but there is also a multiplayer component. Every time you load the game, it connect's to EA servers and stays connected. If you lose connection to the EA servers (lose internet, servers down, doesn't reconnect when PS4 comes out of rest mode), you run the risk of trophies not popping (even once you are reconnected). Try to make sure you are always connected to EA servers if you care about trophies. Also, I have experienced a couple of freezes while playing this game on my PS4 slim. During both occasions, I had to hard reset to get going again. I am not sure how widespread this issue is, but it's something to note. Lastly, I have been seeing some lagging as I have progressed further in the game, particularly when I am driving around in the Nomad or during some conversations. It's not enough to ruin the experience, but I did take note. Again, i am not sure how widespread this is. YMMV.One final thing...I would say that the extras that come with the deluxe edition are not a big deal, so save yourself a few bucks and get the standard edition.

I've been a Mass Effect fan for a long time, and this title is currently right under Mass Effect 2 as my second favorite of the series. Despite some issues (redundant quests, animation), the exploration, characters, story, and gameplay kept me hooked. I was pleasantly surprised, as I'd been following a lot of the negative reception. This game won't be for everyone, but if you liked the exploration in ME1, the character quests in ME2, and the multiplayer gameplay of ME3, this game might hit all the right notes for you. I must say that the game does take a while to build - 10-15 hours left a weak impression until I trudged along and finally hit all the planets and really felt all the right pieces line up. So, the game has it's flaws, but I dont regret my purchase. Cheers!

Im a HUGE fan of this series and Bioware games in general. That being said, apparently EA forced this out early cause has one realitvely substantial flaw that is justifiably receiving criticism and that is the facial animations. Will this ever get better w patches or is it just the way it is im not sure. Fortunately other positives outweigh this one issue. Environments and exploration are great. Combat is great. Driving the Nomad is great. Story is good so far as well. So definitely still good game!

While a step back for the franchise, considering it wasn't the A team at the studio i was satisfied. This game did have a lot of issues and bugs some of which were very frustrating. That said liked the story, gameplay and graphics. Hope they dedicate more time and effort in a next one if they make it.

I've played and love the original trilogy (it's one of my two favorite game series) I've enjoyed this one.I mostly play games for the game play and a good story. Normally animation or graphics don't usually affect my opinion but the characters seem so lifeless during cut scenes I needed to deduct one star. I realize I say this when that was kind of true of the original games but (the third one) is at least 5 years old so they plenty of time to get it right. I enjoyed the story, t the game play is very much nostalgic of the original trilogyI would recommend this game to anyone whose played (and enjoyed) the original games. It's worth the play even if you haven't

If you have played the Mass Effect trilogy, and expect the same greatness from Andromeda, you are going to be disappointed. However, if you treat this as a stand-alone game, it really wasn't as bad as some reviews say. There is a big open and beautiful galaxy for you to explore, a ton of side quests to distract you, and the combat gameplay is decent to say the least. What doesn't make this a Mass Effect game is your in-game choices doesn't seem to really matter in the end - something that traditional Mass Effect fans were used to and would love to see otherwise. I personally found the companion related side quests to be more entertaining than the main storyline and this adds further value to the game. There is also a co-op survival style multiplayer which doesn't have a lasting appeal but good for short term fun. Last but not least, I have the Deluxe Edition but didn't think it was worth the extra money as it won't change your gaming experience much.

It’s basically only superficially a Mass Effect game. The combat is more fast-paced and the exploration aspect is a lot more prominent as an explorer, as opposed to a government asset. It’s not a bad game if you can get past how different it is from its predecessor.

If you are a fan of the original ME trilogy odds are you'll enjoy this game. That being said, it is a deeply flawed experience that leaves you scratching your head, wondering how such a reputable developer like Bioware could produce such a half-baked game. I'll start with the PROS: The combat - while at times sluggish, the combat here is the best it's ever been in the series and the ability to swap powers in-and-out on the fly is pretty awesome. You can really get creative with the mixing/matching of combat, biotic, and tech powers. This also extends to the multiplayer which is similar to ME3s (Gears Horde style gameplay where a squad defends against waves of enemies that get progressively harder). Also great is the feeling of space exploration that was magically captured in the original ME trilogy. Andromeda does not have the familiar celestial landmarks that our Milky Way galaxy did in the OT but Andromeda is still vast and fun to explore in the new space map. The CONS: the original ME trilogy put Bioware's finely polished role-playing sensibilities into a space setting with over-the-shoulder real-time shooting combat as a fun addition. Here, the combat is front and center and sadly the role-playing really does not live up to the previous game. Ryder is nowhere near as cool/fun as Shepard and the Renegade/Paragon system has been abandoned for a much less compelling emotional/logical/aggressive/empathetic response system that just doesn't leave you much room to be the badass that we all know we can be. Yes the facial animations are pretty lousy but honestly it's not that bothersome.Another flaw is the utterly convoluted inventory management system. Having just played Breath of the Wild (which manages inventory with the fluidity and grace of an iOS device) this game's inventory is like trying to manage a vast inventory system with an AS400/DOS style interface (and not in a fun/stylistically consistent way like Fallout manages to pull off). I'm exaggerating slightly there but the inventory system is completely cluttered and really could have been, and should have been much better given how long this game was in development. The supporting cast here is also very mediocre compared to the OT. Outside of the Krogan the rest of the crew is pretty bland. It really made me miss Garrus, Joker, Ashley, Wrex, the Illusive Man etc. All in all, if you were a casual fan of the OT, wait for a sale for this game. It's fun but you'll probably be disappointed if you pay full price for a game that got delayed twice and comes out feeling kind of half-assed. If you were a major fan of the series I'd say get the game, you'll enjoy it. If you aren't a fan of Bioware or over-the-shoulder shooters you can skip this.

The initial reviews for the game were not great and prevented me from purchasing it at launch. However, being a fan of the initial trilogy, I figured that patches would be incoming. The game in its current state plays pretty well and uses its exploration theme fully. The dialog is solid but not as good as the first three games and the combat is balanced. There are some bugs still, of course (weird clipping, occasional cutscene audio sync problems, etc.), but nothing game breaking. If you're a fan of the series, it's a great addition to the universe.

This game has more than its fair share of bugs and technical glitches that should have been looked at by QA/QC. The facial animations are rough and don't always match the voice acting. You can see enemies glitching in and out of dropships before they land. Your helmet magically appears on your head whenever you land. You can completely bug out a quest prompt if you die while interacting it. Bonus points, you can't do anything to stop your death. I tried to finish interacting with the quest object while getting attacked by enemies. Little did I know, the game puts you into a conversation where you can't move. The enemies, however, have full attacking capabilities and can kill you. After loading the last save, I was unable to complete that part of the quest any longer. Going from planet to planet takes way too long. I get that it's supposed to be like you're actually flying there, but still, it's too much.On the other side, the actual fight mechanics are really well done. The worlds all look beautiful. Multiplayer is fun (when I don't get dropped at the last segment) This game really just needed a hard polish on other surfaces. Something a AAA rated IP should have had from the start.

Overall, this is a good game. With 5 years of anticipation and hype between ME:3 and ME:A, the expectations were unreal. Yes, as a software QA engineer, I find some of the bugs are inexcusable. However, such a massive project on 3 platforms will have some issues. These are resolvable and will be soon according to BioWare. It is a huge game. Part shooter, part RPG, part open world, with civ builder elements thrown in. Much more exploration based than ME:2 and ME:3, which were set in a universe assumed to be known to the player. Like a trilogy in any media (movie, book, etc), world-building takes some time in the beginning. It's trying to accommodate ME fan-boys like me who want to dive right in as well as people new to the series. There are some great visuals while exploring planets (even if character expressions are wonky), the characters are interesting (although it takes some time), and you can see the possibilities for where sequels might go. Despite being so vast and exploration based, the pacing doesn't seem slow. Sure, there are fetch quests, and players of Dragon Age Inquisition will see some painful similarities, but there's much less story-less grinding than in DA:I. The Nomad is light-years better than the Mako from ME:1. Combat controls are excellent, and true RPG fans will love the level of detail in character abilities, gear mods, etc. No two Ryders will be the same.Currently I give it 810. After the next major patch, 8.5/10 (assuming no new issues are introduced).

As a long-time fan of the Mass Effect series, I was so excited to jump back into that universe. What I found, though, was a game that felt unfinished. Fun gameplay and an interesting story are hampered by poor animation and other visual hiccups. The first patch has addressed some of the issues, but there is still a long way to go to make this the 5-star game it deserves to be.

I only bought this game because I price matched a competitor. For like $12-13. Played it for a while and I was pleasantly surprised that it was better than it was made out to be by all the people online bashing it. I know they patched it a bunch of times since launch. So that must have helped. So I think for all the people whom wanted the game at launch and saw or read the reviews bashing the game decided not to get it. I'd say it's pretty safe to get it now. Specially if you can get it at bargain bin price.

There are a few things you need to know going in: - This is not a continuation of the Shephard storyline. You start out in a different galaxy, far from the Reaper threat and the characters you've grown to know and love. The Ryder twins (and your protagonist of choice) behave and control very differently. There is a learning curve to everything, and it is not always easy. The combat is more fluid and visceral, but that also means you'll die a little more often when you start. - The visuals go back and forth between ridiculous and ridiculous. Sometimes the beauty is overwhelming, and you really get the sense of exploration. Other times, you'll wonder how a PS2 game managed to be delayed this long. - The storyline is the same hit or miss for me. There are breathtaking moments of dark, sinister action and true moral quandaries. Then there are the lackluster expository scenes that fail to elicit the energy or emotion of the predecessor. Overall, this is a work in progress. Patches have corrected a lot of issues, and it is still the best space RPG out there now. I recommend, but with qualifications.

The game is great honestly. The story, battle mechanics, and environments are awesome. The actual graphics are beautiful.. but those human facial animations make it almost unplayable to me. I seriously put it down to wait until the patch comes, in which I will continue on from there.

For those who have played the original Mass Effect trilogy can expect some similarity to the first ME game. Mass Effect Andromeda offers plenty of exploration, new characters, new enemies, improved combat, and addictive multiplayer. The graphics look great when it comes to the environments, but does not improve much with the character models especially the animations. The combat is very similar to ME 3, but adds vertical combat with a dedicated jump button (jetpacks!), and the inclusion of profiles (you can switch talents in game), and armor/weapon customizations . The story is mostly based on a group of explorers looking for new worlds to live in, but have also found a a few threats and challenges along the way. While the story is not as good as the original trilogy, it does offer choices that affects your gameplay. Lastly, multiplayer is frantic and very similar to ME 3 multiplayer, but with new characters that each have different abilities and perks.

This game really isn’t as bad as the internet says. Now I am a first time mass effect player so maybe that’s why I feel this way. Now it’s not perfect (facial expressions are stiff) but other than that it’s a really solid game, with so much to do. Don’t listen to the internet, great game and one heck of a deal at current low price.
